Year 2000 saw the first IWC tour of competitions, with many athletes participating and some arguments because of some rule changes:most of all because of the "leash ban"
The competitons at that time were still pretty much straightforward in terms of route design. Drytooling was employed at every comp save Pitztal and Kirov.

The finals were held up north, in Sweden. Are is mostly known for alpine skiing. Well, this year it hosted us...a bunch of frosties with a common passion for climbing ice....

and...crashing cars...this time it was someone else, not me, not me...

The TV producers made some strange requests to the climbers. You can see a mic, dangling down my harness on the semi final route.
The finals in Are have shown the way towards which we were going. The route was hard enough to repell most of the finalists before they reached the crux.
One of the most interesting cometitions at this time was Cortina boulder competition, when everything was subjected to difficulty of climbs.
Precise tools and red lines.
Kirov competition became notorious for it's unleashed apres comp train party. The IWC 2000 overall winner Will Gadd was happy to give everyone a sip from his "rifle"
